Blue Escape

Blue Escape

I still think of her as my Kate

in the broad-brimmed hat

she wore in African Queen,

mysterious in her blue neck scarf,

her dancing eyes, her voice

so tuneful and metallic,

her relish of our audacious blue adventure.

We sailed to the Isle of Cobalt Mountain

a serene blue bulk hulking

over a seductive sapphire ocean

welcoming us to peaceful rest

far from the tumult of paparazzi

ever eager for glimpses of glamor

and spicy mystery.

Above the misty island

a perpetual stratocumulus

is mistaken for volcano smolder.

But there is no roiling cauldron

within the Isle of Cobalt Mountain.

Only in me, still cherishing Kate

And our long-ago blue escape.
