Anticipation Abandoned

Anticipation Abandoned

The anticipation of meeting you

on a Tuesday turned to disappointment.

First, I did not know if you would be blue

or green or yellow, a dream, a moment.

Your reluctance concealed behind a sheet

and a lacey veil covering one eye,

hands holding your dignity with sweet

temptation signaled only by my sigh.

With hopes and wishes left stranded, alone,

lacking faint chance of future connection

and, feeling it was my time to head home,

when you rose, first, turned with disaffection.

Abandoned, standing in an empty room,

dreams shattered on a gloomy afternoon.
